BJP worker, his family attacked with sharp weapons in Bengal, police rules out political angle

A BJP worker, his wife, and son were attacked with sharp weapons in the Chowhati area of ​​Sonarpur in South 24 Parganas district on Saturday morning. All three were taken to MR Bangur Hospital in critical condition, later they were shifted to SSKM Hospital. The BJP accused Trinamool-backed criminals of carrying out the attack, while the local Trinamool leader has rejected this allegation.

The victims BJP worker Govinda Adhikari, his wife Namita, and son Gaurav Adhikari are seriously injured. Govinda was a polling agent of the BJP in this election. His daughter was also at home at the time of the attack, but she was not attacked. The police have detained Govinda's neighbor Subhash Debnath and his son Sumit Debnath.

The police say that this is a family dispute, it has nothing to do with politics. A few days ago, there was a fight between the two families over killing a dog. This attack is also linked to the same dispute. Local BJP leader Debnath Chakraborty says that there was a fight over the dog a week before the vote. Govinda was our polling agent and the attackers were Trinamool supporters. They had threatened that they were from Trinamool and would deal with us.

Rejecting this allegation, Trinamool councilor Rajiv Purohit said that this is a fight between two families. He said that there was a fight over killing a dog and Govinda had filed a case against Subhash Debnath. But Trinamool has no hand in this attack. Our ward is peaceful and there has been no political fight here. The person arrested by the police is not connected to politics.
